Mike Males

Mike A. Males (born 1950) is an American sociologist who writes from a pro youth rights perspective. Males is a professor at the University of California - Irvine. He does studies to help youth, writes books, writes for newspapers and other sources, and considers himself a "debunker" when it comes to the media's unfair coverage of young people.

Books
"Scapegoat Generation: America's War on Adolescents" is a non-fiction Mike Males wrote revealing that contrary to popular American belief, it is the media that is out of control and not teenagers. He uses statistics, charts, and factual evidence to display how young people are not the monsters that the media works so hard to make them out to be. "Framing Youth: Ten Myths About the Next Generation" is a smiliar work from the California sociologist. "Kids and Guns: How Politicians, Experts, and the Media Fabricate Fear of Youth" is a free online book written by the sociologist. And he wrote "Smoked: Why Joe Camel Is Still Smiling."

Studeis
Mike Males has done many studies pertaining to the way that young people are treated in our country. He has done a study proving that young people's high fatality rate while driving is related to their poverty and the conditions in which they are expected to drive. He noted that there poverty is a large predictor in fatal car crashes. He also has done studies on curfew laws.
