Matthew Walcoff
From YRN
Matt Walcoff is the co-founder of both ASFAR and NYRA.
About
He and Matt Herman met on the Y-Rights mailing list, and in 1996 they started Americans for a Society Free from Age Restrictions. Walcoff became ASFAR's first President, and played a major role in shaping their Declaration of Principles, which is one of the most important documents in the youth rights movement.
By 1998, Walcoff and several other senior ASFAR members were disillusioned with what they perceived to be ASFAR's increasingly radical membership and cumbersome internal structure. Eventually Walcoff co-founded the National Youth Rights Association, and became NYRAs first Secretary. Walcoff left in 2000 over personal and political differences with other NYRA leaders. He sabotaged the website and stole NYRA's official seal.
He advocated political lobbying and public affairs tactics for drinking age reform.
In 2004, Walcoff co-authored an article with David Hanson on the drinking age which appeared in Reason, available at http://www.reason.com/0410/fe.dh.age.shtml. Matt is now living in Prague.
