Jessica Campbell has been involved with Youth Rights since 2001 and served as the president of NYRA-Cottage Grove in Oregon.

History

Jess created and ran successful campaigns for the student ability to opt-out of No Child Left Behind's mandated release of private student information to military recruiters, the elimination of Channel One (which abused compulsory education laws to force students to watch advertising) in the South Lane School District, the formation of a Student Representative seat on the South Lane School District School Board, the formation of a Youth Advisory Council to serve the City of Cottage Grove, and a Youth Representative seat on the Cottage Grove City Council.

Jess served as the Youth Representative on the City of Cottage Grove City Council 2005-2006 and the City of Cottage Grove Youth Advisory Council 2004-2006, chairing and organizing two successful Battle of the Bands where youth from around the region played music for hundreds of their peers and benefited the City several thousands of dollars.

Co-Founding NYRA-Cottage Grove, Jess and her peers quickly set out to provide a neutral setting for students upset with the school administration's unwillingness to listen to students' complaints regarding a mandatory study period for underclassmen through a student forum. With the attendance of several dozens of students, a number of faculty, and the superintendent, Jess assembled a presentation for the Culture of Achievement Board to explain what students wanted to see changed.

Outside of Youth Rights, Jess attends the University of Oregon, organizes for local human dignity groups, and runs workshops and trainings surrounding social justice organization and youth involvement in political process. Jess served on the NYRA Board of Directors from 2006-2007.
