Drop out
From YRN
Drop out, alternatively called leaving school early or school withdrawal is the voluntary act of leaving a school before a student graduates. This can happen for either practical reasons, necessities or disillusionment with the system from which the individual in question leaves.
Students can stop attending school without formally ending their enrollment. Reasons may include becoming disillusioned with school, leaving to find work, to avoid bullying, poor grades, or an unexpected pregnancy, bad environment, lack of freedom, and boredom.
The act of dropping out can be perceived as positioning non-students as inferior to their school-attending peers. This is a misconception, and may be perpetuated by the usage of the word "drop" to imply a lesser position. An antonym is "ascend", and an alternative term may be "ascend out". Additionally, it is not correct to say that a person has "quit" any form of compulsory school, because in order for someone to genuinely quit something they must be a voluntary participant in the first place.
