ASFAR
From YRN
Americans for a Society Free from Age Restrictions (ASFAR) is an organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the civil rights of youth through investigating, cataloging, and attacking a wide range of laws and regulations that unlawfully discriminate against youth.
About
As part and parcel of this extensive, broad-based activity, it takes positions on issues outside the purview of the National Youth Rights Association, which formed from dissenting ASFAR members, including ASFAR founders Matt Walcoff and Matt Herman, in 1998.
ASFAR was the first youth rights group to become popular through the Internet, and expects a resurgence in activity under its new Board of Directors. It is currently in the process of extensive bylaw revision, and has recently created and formalized a new website and forums. The 2009 ASFAR work plan stipulates that the president and vice-president must write and submit op-ed articles regarding youth rights issues to major newspapers each quarter, so ASFAR may gain additional publicity through this outlet also.
It previously published the youth rights 'zine, Youth Truth, although publication has since been suspended. The ASFAR work plan calls for publication to resume in 2010.
